About me
I'm Josh, a Computer Science major at CSUSM with 3+ years of one-on-one tutoring experience. My coursework includes Calculus I–III, Linear Algebra, and Discrete Math, which gives me a wide understanding of concepts and their connections to past and future material at every level.
I grew up in Santa Cruz, CA, and moved down to San Marcos for school. Outside of math, I'm into video games, movies, Formula 1, and music. My favorite subject in school was always math (shocker), and I've been able to keep that passion going by helping others with it.
My approach
Math, unlike many other subjects, has an immense amount of material that is constantly building on previous concepts. This can make students who fall behind struggle even more to catch up. My favorite students to work with are those who have the desire to learn and just need that extra little boost, or maybe just a change of face from where the information is coming from. Being able to really break down problems one-on-one and have them grasp the reason behind why we are doing what we do is what I find to be so rewarding. It is the classic aha! moments that we always hear about, but they truly are real, and achieving those is always my main goal. I've heard time and time again from multiple students that once they gain confidence with math, they tend to find it fun! This completely changes their perspective on learning and sets them up for future success.

Rates
First session — $30. One per student, through September 30. A low-risk way to see if we're a good fit before committing to anything.
- $65/hr — 60-minute one-on-one session, in person or online
- Payment via Venmo or Zelle after each session
- Discounted packages available for students on a regular weekly schedule — just ask
How sessions work
- In-person sessions around San Marcos — your home, a library, or a coffee shop
- Online sessions over Zoom, including for Vista, Escondido, and Carlsbad
- Parents are always welcome to sit in, and I keep a parent on every scheduling thread
- 12-hour cancellation notice required
- Typical availability: weekday afternoons and evenings, plus weekends
